My 2-seater 2001 Toyota convertible coupe has only two 6.5" speakers+1" tweeters in the doors and no rear speakers. My son and I both noticed the lack of the deeper notes, and all the after-market 6.5" speakers we listened to at the stores put out even less bass than the OEM speakers! I needed an 8" sub to fit in a shallow under-dash fiberglass box, since that was the only semi-free unused space inside the passenger compartment that I could find. The up under-dash install also keeps the speaker hidden for security. Since the box and speaker is almost face-down right above the clutch foot, the speaker had to be sturdy. The Polk MM is built sturdy enough that an errant toe shouldn't hurt it, nor did all my poking or shoving while trying to get the enclosure and speaker up in there during installation. It survived better than my hands did; so this speaker should last a long time. The speaker itself was easy to install into the enclosure, is well made, has many screws and so a good tight seal around the enclosure opening.
I have a 720W 3ch Kenwood amp powering it and the 2 door speakers, with the Left Rear bridged audio B channel feeding the mono sub, for 180W average and 360W peak power, while the Sub is rated to handle up to 250W avg/500W peak. They make the subwoofer shallower by using a thinner but higher-quality magnet, not by just giving it shallow movement and a smaller basket, like some other manufacturers.
The subwoofer sounds great with both rock'n'roll or my son's favorite hip-hop music, even with the convertible top down and all that extra road and wind noise. It's sound carries throughout the car, so we no longer feel like all the sound is 'up front', even though it actually is.
So if you are looking for a small-but-powerful-and-efficient 8" sub that will last longer than your car or truck, this is a good choice.

For what you pay this is a great device. The amp is very good, not too much clipping except at very high volumes, if you want louder than this, buy a separate amp. I'd rate it as good as any of the Sony/ Alpine/ Panasonic lower end head units I've purchased. It is actually worth getting a decent set of speakers to go with it, and also make sure you use a reasonable bit rate when encoding your music. I have good alpine speakers and the definition with high bit rate music is very good. Radio works well, card function works well. Only downside is the random function when playing from the SD card, sort of... rather than being random it has a certain pattern of track numbers it uses, by adding onto the track you start with. ie if you switch it on and start with track 1 it will then play the same random selection you got last time, but if you then advance to say track 3 before pressing random it will then use the same algorithm, but starting from track 3, so therefore different. It isn't really an issue as I've noticed a lot of players do the same thing, as generating truly random numbers is expensive!
Controls are OK, the remote is good though huge (not easy to loose I guess). I haven't figured out how to display the song titles yet, it wants to, as it scrolls through that function while playing. I have figured this out now, if you sync your music using Media Player it will do song titles, if you copy and paste it won't.
One thing to check however is the phasing on the speaker leads, mine had one pair of front speaker leads labelled wrong. It was pretty obvious, when you opened the door the bass increased a heap. So something to check, if like in Chan's review the Bass seems weak.
All in all, for the money it is worth buying.
Oh yeah, it doesn't have screw holes in the side for mounting in toyota brackets, but the mounting cradle does have heaps of tabs to make a secure installation. It's very light so it doesn't need much to hold it, the cradle plus the back strap is more than enough. If you can't access the back strap, it's light enough that a platform of scrunched up paper at the back of the unit would hold it up, providing you don't block the ventilation.
Upshot is: I'd buy another one and recommend it to my friends, especially at this price!
PS: I dunno what unit the guy who gave it one star was reviewing but I don't think it was this one! It even has a different DIN mounting set up, the first locking tabs are right next to the front of the cradle.

Excellent set of tweeters! : Polk Audio DB1001 1-Inch Silk/Polymer Composite Dome Tweeters (Pair, Black)
I decided to buy these after having installed four of the Polk audio db651s 6.5" speakers in my Honda Civic. I was very impressed with the sound quality of the Polk speakers I had bought before and needed a tweeter replacement.
These things sound incredible. They really compliment the four Polk db651 6.5" speakers I have already installed. Crystal clear highs, incredible clarity, and the build quality is very solid. I was going to by a cheap off brand pair but am very glad I went with these instead.
Now the bad..these things were a PAIN to install but that is not really the manufacturer/sellers fault. I have a 96' Civic which had a speaker system by 'Acoustic Research'. It required a lot of jerry rigging to install these correctly. I'm not sure if this is some type of after market system or an OEM system but these Polk tweeters just didn't fit. I was forced to cut up the old tweeter mount to make them fit properly. Also I bought a standard Honda speaker harness thinking it would fit the wiring but the stock wiring harness was completely different. I had to run speaker wire from the stock harness to the ends on these speakers which works but was a bit disappointed that I wasted $10 for a speaker harness that doesn't fit.
In conclusion I'd highly recommend buying these but just be warned that like most after market products you'll probably be forced to do some jerry rigging to get them to fit right. On a side note you can't beat these prices! Crutchfield, Frys, and some other retailers want $100+ for these! At $60 these things are a steal! Thanks Amazon!
